    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

    18 March, 2020

    DEAR NEW ERA COLLEGE COMMUNITY

With growing concerns about the potential risks of COVID-19, commonly known as Coronavirus affecting our community and nation at large, New Era College has taken several precautionary and preventive measures to protect and safeguard the interests of all our stakeholders, with focused attention on delivering solutions on campus to our students and staff.

    Our priorities are to:

    1. Provide the necessary information to students and staff on how to protect their health and prevent the spread of Coronavirus as recommended by the Botswana Government and the World Health Organization.

    2. Continue providing quality education and training as required and continue to provide a safe and responsive environment.

    3. Provide additional on-campus soap and other sanitary products needed to intensify the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

As the global landscape of the pandemic changes daily, we are committed to communicating new developments as they are shared from the Government of Botswana. The College pledges to continue sharing current and relevant information as it receives it.

In wake of the Coronavirus pandemic and the potential risks it poses, New Era College has taken the following steps:

    1. The College has collaborated with the Ministry of Health & Wellness on how to better prepare the New Era College community on prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus  and consulted on measures to be put in place.

    2. The College has actively disseminated information (posters and flyers) from the Ministry of Health & Wellness that has been distributed and posted on campus.

    3. New Era College hygiene staff has increased, intensified and extended cleaning services in bathrooms and other key high volume traffic areas with industry graded disinfectants.

    4. Campus Management is ensuring that all touch-surfaces are cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis.

    5. Ensuring that soap dispensers continue to be filled daily.

6.Additional soap dispensers to be installed in the coming days.

    7. Industry standard hand sanitizers will be distributed in all common student areas as soon as they are received.

    8. The College held an official address for all students and staff, hosted by the Ministry of Health & Wellness on the 17th of March 2020 on campus (at the Nonagon).

    9. SAS held a meeting with the College SRC informing and educating students about the outbreak (now pandemic) of COVID-19.

    10. SAS addressed students during their most recent sports meeting.

    11. Communication was made internally and on all social media channels as of March 13th, 2020 on proactive and preventative steps to be taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

      12. Developed informational posters to be distributed across campus today (March 18th 2020)

    13. The Senior Management Team (SMT) has been meeting weekly since 1st of March 2020 to monitor the potential risks posed to the New Era College community and on how to mitigate against COVID-19.

    14. The Senior Management Team (SMT) has been consistently and continuously in communication with Ministry of Health & Wellness to stay updated on any developments that arise

    In this time of global uncertainty, we urge students to voice their concerns and recommendations through the existing channels in place;
