On Thursday, June 18th, New Era College officially launched The Professor Amos Thapisa Scholarship for Emerging Leaders. The prestigious inauguration ceremony marked a major milestone, graced by the presence of Professor Amos Thapisa himself and his family, celebrating a legacy dedicated to academic excellence and national development. As Professor Thapisa noted in his address, this initiative is strategically designed to empower the visionary minds who will shape our institutions, strengthen our communities, and drive meaningful growth across Botswana.
To qualify, an applicant must be a citizen of Botswana with no previous higher education qualifications, and hold a valid admission letter for a Level 7 or Level 8 Bachelor’s degree programme at New Era College. Candidates must have achieved a minimum of 30 points in their BGCSE or IGCSE examinations—noting that 30 points serves as the starting line, not the finish line. Because the program targets true leadership potential, applicants must also demonstrate proof of contributing to a community cause, provide two recommendation letters, and submit a 400–500 word essay detailing their leadership aspirations and intended contribution to Botswana’s development.
The application window is officially open. Prospects have until June 30, 2026, to submit their full application and essay before the vetting and panel interview process begins. The successful scholar will be announced on July 17, 2026, ahead of commencing their studies at the beginning of August.
